This series of pieces reflect the experience of chronic illness and some of the issues surrounding this. The use of ceramics is a representation of the feeling of brittleness during and following the period of adjustment to the changes in identity and sense of self. Their creation explores the concerns linked to changing expectations and the process of rebuilding a new and different lifestyle.

Under PressureThe zip in this piece symbolises the people who tell you to "pull yourself together" and assume that you are just being lazy rather than ill. The fact it cannot be closed shows the frustration over not being able to do things I used to be able to.
Falling ApartThis is another air-drying clay piece, and has a sense of falling apart and collapsing under pressure, and the loss of strength due to the zip being open.
Picking up the PiecesThis shows the way other people tell you how to deal with things, trying to shape you to fit their ideas. The piece is interactive, and the tiles can be used to create patterns and images, so each person will have a different experience with the piece.
