For my final project, I chose to look at the idea of motion, and the different ways in which I could capture or create motion in my artwork.
Among my development pieces I created a series of mobiles using transparent materials to look at the way in which they created shadows and colour by their movement. The above piece was inspired by a visit to the Sagrada Familiar in Barcelona (left) and reading Gaudi's vision of windows which "painted the walls with light". This effect is very striking due to the use of a light limestone in construction so the colours appear very vivid. I used black card for the frames, and overlapping strips of coloured cellophane to imitate the very Modernist abstract stained windows in the cathedral. The colours projected in bright sunlight, and created a miniature moving version of Gaudi's vision.
However, I didn't feel I could develop this idea as much as I wanted to.
