This was the first of the quilled pieces I made, which used pegs of different colours rather than the more open curls and petal shapes of the second image. I like the use of the negative shape rather than just making the solid shape of the letter, and developed this idea into a stop-motion animation.
This initial used quilled paper to create a letter using negative space. This version was made using a background of double-sided tape, which worked well in terms of positioning the curls and shapes, but the background is not very clean as a result. The piece is based on the work of Yulia Brodskaya.
